Exceptional Childcare Burton on Trent

Babies (3 months to approx 18-20 months)

Our objective is to make the transition from home to nursery as smooth as possible for both babies and parents. We know from our own experience how hard it can be to leave your baby, so we try to mirror the home environment as far as we possibly can, particularly with regard to sleeping and feeding patterns. As the child settles in, grows and develops, we gradually help to establish their routine, in preparation for moving up to the Toddler Room around 18-20 months.

Parent Communication

We maintain open dialogue with parents, providing daily updates on routines, milestones, and progress to ensure a strong partnership in your child’s development.

Daily Reports

A written record details meals, naps, and activities, with immediate contact for concerns. Parents can call anytime to check on their child.

Personal Attention

Babies receive close care, cuddles, and stimulation through music, play, and a key person system, creating a warm and nurturing environment.

Engaging Activities

A mix of energetic play, messy fun, and quiet time ensures a balanced day, with activities tailored to each child’s development.

Meal Options – Parents provide food for babies, while we offer meals, snacks, and drinks from age one onwards.

Themed Fun – Engaging theme days, picnics, and charity events enhance learning through play and creativity.

Our Rooms

Toddlers (approx 18/20 months to 30/32 months)

The routine in the Toddler Room is slightly more structured than in the Baby Room, as most children respond well to routine because it empowers them to be confident and aware of the world around them.

Social Growth

Encouraging sharing, relationships, and communication through play, music, and interactive activities. Children develop social skills, table manners, and personal hygiene in a fun and engaging environment.

Engaging Moments

Children experience a mix of group activities, 1:1 time, and interactive sessions like storytelling, singing, and outdoor play, fostering learning and social connections.

Guided Growth

Practitioners observe, assess, and plan activities based on each child’s interests, ensuring continuous development through engaging and inspiring play.

Toilet Training

We support children and parents through the potty-training process, focusing on progress, encouragement, and positive reinforcement.

Little Monsters was chosen to be involved in a pilot scheme, known as The Unique Toddler Project, which underlines our commitment to continuing to promote best practice within the Toddler age group and provide the best, most tailored experience for our toddlers in the setting.

Our Rooms

Tweenies (aged approx 30/32 months to approx 42 months)

Just as the Toddler Room has more structure than the Baby Room, the Tweenies room is another stepping-stone on the journey towards school. We place more emphasis on developing childrens independence and preparing them for life in school, without moving away from our ethos of making learning fun and learning through play.

Smooth Transitions

We gradually introduce children to Tweenies, helping them adjust through play, meals, and naps before transitioning fully.

Growing Independence

Children practice self-registration, discuss daily topics at circle time, and share experiences to build confidence and communication skills.

Toilet Training

We support children and parents through potty training at their own pace, with no pressure to be trained before moving rooms.

Festive Fun

Tweenies put on an annual Christmas production for parents and family members, making for a memorable and joyful experience.

Our Rooms

Pre School (aged approx 42 months and over)
The Pre School is for children from around 3 years to school age (and beyond in the out of school club). As with the transition from Toddlers to Tweenies, children move up when we feel they are ready for more structure and the Pre School environment.

School Readiness

Learning is carefully planned and assessed to build on each child’s skills, preparing them for a smooth transition to primary school.

Early Learning Focus

We support development through play, emphasizing emergent writing, literacy, numeracy, and social skills.

Language Development

Through word games and the Letters and Sounds framework, children build strong early reading and communication skills.

Early Math Skills

Fun activities like counting, sorting, and comparing help children develop essential mathematical concepts and language.

We prioritize hands-on learning over screens, encouraging children to communicate, use their imagination, and develop motor skills through various activities. They have access to diverse resources for creativity and critical thinking, with opportunities to engage in reading and constructive play rather than screen time.

Pre-School children actively choose activities and enjoy a free-flow system, accessing both indoor and outdoor spaces. Like the Tweenies, they also put on a Christmas production for families. Toilet training is encouraged but not required for admission.

Of the 24 available Pre-School places, six are split places. School pupils (5-10 years old) attend during morning and afternoon hours, while 3-5-year-olds participate from 9 AM to 3 PM during term time. Holiday short-day programs accommodate both younger children and school-aged kids based on parents’ needs.
